Snow Day

Philly got hit pretty hard with a snowstorm, so today's classes were preemptively canceled, which is nice because it gives me more time to type up my homework and to generally laze about. As I'm not really doing anything, I don't really have that much to add at the moment. Just this:

The wind, it was howlin', and the snow was outrageous
We chopped through the night, and we chopped through the dawn
When he died, I was hopin' that it wasn't contagious
But I made up my mind and I had to go on

Know what that's from?

hey, hate to half-spoil it for everyone else, but that's dylan somethingorother... I can sing along with the lines, but I can't come up with the track title, and I'm not about to pan through the whole bob stash to find it (you know how extensive that is, as I may or may not have gotten "a few" dylan albums from you). not going to cheat with google, either.

1) when we went to nipponland summer 2003, everyone we met seemed to be obsessed with "Bobo Diran"; was it the same when you visited there other times/were teaching there?

2) as royally obvious as it is, have you solved my identity mystery yet? [parallel structure error]

I'm pretty sure the real mystery is the choice of digits, which is no doubt significant. The digits themselves are not necessarily significant, as we don't know the accuracy.

Everyone in glorious Nippon seemed to love the Carpenters (?) and one of my teachers was a huge Billy Joel fan, and could sing all the words to some of his songs without knowing what any of them meant.

The Dylan mystery remains open! The words are transcribed here from memory, so they may be slightly off, but are within epsilon of being right.

hmmm, the billy joel passion seems typical - when I went to [the white cliffs of] dover, we spent an entire art class and subsequent lunch period with "uptown girl" on loop. they could've at least picked a good b-jo song (note irony)... the carpenters, though? interesting choice.

indeed, they're all sig figs. just start multiplying number (singular) together. note that it's "approximately a million", and that it's even. really, really even. bonus points for identifying its extreme significance in that subject I minored in.

hooray, college snow days.

I married Isis on the 5th day of May, but I could not hold on to her very long.

Also, DC has gotten some obscene amount of snow that I can no longer keep track of and the federal government has been shut down all week. Tomorrow will be the first day the government is open. It's been a magical six day weekend.
